Gestern Abend, am 10.Juni 2010, erreichten wir völlig durchnässt und bei strömendem Regen das “Ende der Welt”. Als wäre es zu unserer Begrüßung ertönte im gleichmäßigem Rhythmus der tiefe ohrenbetäubende Bass der Nebelhörner am Leuchtturm des Capo Finisterre. Nach über zwei Jahren im Fahrradsattel durch die Welt machen wir uns nun von hier aus auf den Weg nach Hause. Wir freuen uns auf die baldige Rückkehr, auf bekannte und neue Gesichter und die Abenteuer der Zukunft.

Yesterday evening, 10th of June, we arrived soaking wet and in heavy rain at the “End of the World”. As if welcoming us the deep deafening bass of the fog horns blowed in regular rhythm at the lighthouse of the Capo Finisterre. After more than two years in the bicycle saddle around the world we will head home from here. Looking forward to returning soon, seeing known and new faces and the adventures of the future.

Willkommen, Hosgeldiniz, welcome steht da auf einer grossen Tafel neben dem Schlagbaum. Gerade sassen wir noch mit den syrischen Grenzbeamten bei einem Tee mit Brot neben dem Zollhaeuschen und jetzt werden wir auf einem Schild in Deutsch willkommen geheisen. Zuhause sind wir noch nicht, aber die Grenzstation macht einen entschieden moderneren Eindruck als im Nachbarland und ohne weitere Visaformalitaeten bekommen wir einen Einreisestempel fuer drei Monate in den Pass gedrueckt. Na dann, auf Richtung Heimat und ab durch die Tuerkei.
So familiar but still quite different. The country that welcomes us with “Hosgeldiniz” followed by “Welcome” and “Willkommen” on a sign under the white halfmoon and the star on red background at the border crossing and I have learned my first Turkish vocabulary. If not at the border it would not have taken long to learn the world Hosgeldiniz which is frequently used wherever you go. Friendly and hospitable are the Turkish, no doubt about that. After being in the arabic part of the world for approximately three months I finally become a literate again. What a relief!
